Esmi is a Southern California Native who joined the FOX 7 Austin news team in May of 2017.
She graduated from California State University- Northridge with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Political Science where she was an anchor and reporter for her school’s news station.
She gained journalism experience through various internships and jobs in Los Angeles, including KTTV FOX 11’s Good Day LA show, KNBC-Universal and Access Hollywood Live. She also gained on camera experience working for Santa Clarita’s public access news show.
She enjoyed producing food segments for GDLA where she conducted interviews with trendy restaurants around Melrose and Beverly Hills.
After wrapping up her internship at Good Day she went on to intern for Access Hollywood Live.That experience led her to many glamorous Hollywood red carpet events where she interviewed celebrities and worked alongside TV hosts Kit Hoover, Shaun Robinson and Maria Menounos.
She also interned for KNBC’s investigative team where she covered the 2010 Meg Whitman VS. Jerry Brown Governor election.
While attending college she was hired as a part-time news assistant for KABC where she was then promoted to news apprentice and traffic producer after graduation.
The city girl then made her way to Idaho Falls, Idaho. She reported for two years on agriculture, politics, and the economic impacts made by Idaho’s National Laboratory. While working in Idaho Esmi was the first reporter on scene to cover the devastating Henry’s Creek Fire that burned more than 50,000 acres of land including BLM land and took crews almost two weeks to contain.
She has a passion for getting to know the community and enjoyed her time in Idaho exploring the Teton’s. Now her journey has taken her to Austin. She loves the beautiful city and doesn’t even mind the traffic.
Esmi is a well-rounded reporter who has dipped her feet in the waters of both entertainment, general assignment and investigative journalism.
This California girl loves how weird Austin is and loves walking her three Chihuahua’s Lola, Rambo and Sundance around Zilker Park.
Esmi is thankful for all the mentors she’s had along the way including her CSUN professor Mr. Lincoln. She’s also grateful to her parents who immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba to escape the clutches of communism providing her the opportunities they didn’t have.
