Woman dies after being hit by 18 wheeler

The tanker truck was headed east on 290 near Anderson Lane when the woman crossed the road. The driver of the 18 wheeler swerved, to avoid hitting the woman, but he wasn't able to stop fast enough. Investigators say he hit the woman as well as a flyover support pillar.

The crash is still under investigation but early details indicate the woman did not cross the road legally.

Both were rushed to UMC Brackenridge. The woman, who is believed to be in her 30s, was pronounced dead on arrival. The 40-year-old truck driver is recovering with serious injuries.

The still unidentified woman is the fourth person hit and killed by a vehicle in the last seven days here in Austin.

First responders tell FOX 7 they can't say it enough: When crossing the street, always do it in the cross walk and wait for the right of way.

The scene of the accident is now clear and should not impact your morning commute.
