It's one thing to have state title hopes but how about legitimate state tournament chances for both the girls and boys teams from the same school? That's the impressive reality at Liberty Hill where both programs are ranked in the state's Top 5.
The Liberty Hill girls basketball team are thriving under boys basketball coach Barry Boren's former assistant Matt Kirschner.
Kirschner's 32-2 Panthers are also ranked 4th in the state like the boys and are also still looking for their first state title after three previous trips.
Both the Liberty Hill girls and boys can make school history by both going to state in the same season.
Senior Guard Shelby Whitten says, "Oh it's awesome. We are really good friends with the guys and they are really good friends with us. Our coaches communicate and work together, balance ideas off each other and talk about practice plans, they go scout together. It's just an amazing feeling having a boys team that's so close."
Senior Guard Ashlee Walker agrees saying "We're always looking to make sure that they are winning and they are always checking up on us, so it's really fun. We really care about each other and hope that we all can make it all the way."
Coach Matt Kirschner says, "The success of the other sports is actually lending a hand to us because everybody wants a piece of that success and that's what the girls want."
