Details in a warrant to search Samantha Dean's home are providing new information about her murder.
A Bastrop County Sheriff Deputy found Dean with a plastic bag wrapped around her head. According to a preliminary autopsy she was shot three times at close range with a small caliber weapon which has not been recovered.
Thursday authorities went back to Dean's South Austin home searching for more clues. Her body was found nearly 30 miles away but authorities are unclear where the murder was committed. They were looking for traces of blood, fingerprints and anything that may be related to a violent crime. Investigators have reason to believe the crime scene may have been staged according to the warrant. The back seat of her car had been removed and it appeared her body may have been moved as well.
In the early morning hours of February 4th a witness in the area reported hearing someone scream. Not long after is when a deputy found Dean's body. Dean worked as a crime victims service counselor for the Kyle Police Department. She was also seven months pregnant.
Agencies in Bastrop, Travis, and Hays Counties are assisting. Sources say an Austin Police officer with ties to Dean is on paid leave while the investigation continues.
Stuffed animals and flowers mark the place where Dean was found. She spent her days working to bring closure and comfort to victims of crime and now investigators and loved ones are trying to do just that for her family. The Bastrop Sheriff's Office is taking the lead on the investigation. Authorities have said the person responsible could face a capital murder charge.
