HOUSTON (AP) - Authorities say a Houston-area boy has died after he accidentally shot himself while in a home. The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened yesterday morning at a home in north Harris County. Sheriff's office spokesman Thomas Gilliland says investigators are trying to establish how the child located the weapon.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - A Texas man is accused of punching and trying to choke a police officer. Arthur Lee Wright was pulled over after nearly hitting a College Station police officer's patrol car while making an unsafe lane change. Police say Wright then stepped out of his car, slammed the officer into his vehicle and tried to choke her.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Austin Fire Department is reporting an increase in female employees from six years ago. The nearly 6.6 percent of the department's nearly 1,020 sworn employees that are female is an improvement from 5 percent at the end of 2008. It's also better than the national average.

DALLAS (AP) - An ex-worker is suing a nonprofit sponsor of a now-closed North Texas academy. Kevin Jefferson was Prime Prep Academy's chief financial officer. He says he had a multiyear contract and was fired a few months after telling police Deion Sanders had choked him during a 2013 staff meeting. Jefferson wants up to $1 million in the lawsuit against Uplift Fort Worth.
