COTTONWOOD SHORES, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas police chief has resigned and surrendered his peace officer's license in exchange for prosecutors to dismiss a harassment charge against him.
The agreement with prosecutors bans Cottonwood Shores police chief Thomas E. Williams from working in law enforcement for life. He had been police chief of the small city adjacent to Horseshoe Bay since November.
Authorities say the harassment charge stemmed from unwanted text messages Williams sent in January to a woman who told him not to contact her. Williams also was under investigation for a disturbance in March at a Horseshoe Bay hotel involving a female companion who declined to press charges against him.
City Administrator Sheila C. Moore says Lt. Chris Bieze will act as interim chief of the three-person department.
