H-E-B celebrates 110th anniversary

It's a big year for a big Texas company as H-E-B celebrates its 110th anniversary.

In 1905, Florence Clementine Thornton Butt opened the C.C. Butt Grocery Store in Kerrville. The first store was on the ground floor of a small building, which she leased for $9-a-month. Her son, Howard, eventually took over the business and eventually changed the name to H-E-B. Since then, it's grown to become one of the largest independent food retailers in the nation.

The grocer has been celebrating with a 110th Anniversary Road Show that began in Kerrville on March 2nd. The tour is making stops in 14 cities across Texas and it's stopping in Austin today. The party will be at its Mueller store beginning at 2:00 p.m.

There you can check out the H-E-B Mobile Museum which shows a digital archive of H-E-B mementos and a timeline of the company's history. H-E-B is also asking customers to contribute to its history by bringing any H-E-B archives or mementos for inclusion in the Mobile Museum. H-E-B reps will take a photo of the item and include a brief description for archiving purposes.

There will also be free swag, live music, food and drink samples and more.
