An upcoming Austin event will feature creative works that showcase artistic expression being done that can help veterans. The art helps veterans suffering from PTSD.
Glenn Towery with the Austin Veterans Art Festival says that PTSD is a major problem in the veteran community. He says that those dealing with PTSD replay traumatic moments and when that happens all the trauma comes back and that's what causes the problem.
Towery says that art is like a form of meditation and it allows the mind to relax. He says the conscious mind is doing something it enjoys nad the subconscious mind sneaks in and it starts to process things and Towery says that's the magic and beauty of practicing art.
The Austin Veterans Art Festival is scheduled for October/November 2019. Veteran artists will be performing, acting, singing and more while art will of course also be on display. An launch party and fundraising event is being held on Nov. 15. You can get more information here.
