Medical professionals superstitious about full moons

- Doctors don’t use four-leaf clovers to perform surgeries or fortune cookies to diagnose patients, but many medical professionals believe that full moons have sway over their hospitals.

According to the Wall Street Journal, “doctors and nurses say a full-moon night, particularly right before Halloween, triggers a flood of admissions, notably among patients suffering psychotic episodes, sporting strange injuries or going into labor under unusual circumstances”.

In fact, the deep-rooted superstition has some hospitals over-staff in preparation for the lunar lunacy.

Conversely, studies have shown that there is no boost in admissions during full moons, but that does little to dissuade those with years of experience.

“Our bodies are 70 percent  water, and because the moon moves the oceans, it moves the water in your body—people flip out,” said a veteran X-ray technologist.

So next time you’re heading to the ER, avert your eyes from your injury and take a look up at the sky. You might have a long wait...or there could be a lot of very bored doctors.
