How much are you supposed to tip?

- Are you sure you are tipping enough in your daily life? There are a few good tipping rules to live by if you don’t want to be a jerk.

According to CNN Money, waiters and waitresses should be tipped 20 percent of the bill for good service and no less than 10 percent for terrible service.

When you’re at the bar, if you pay as you go, the rule of thumb is $1 per alcoholic drink you purchase. If you are keeping a tab open, then you should tip 20 percent for good service.

Give the valet $2 for bringing your car to you, and always keep $1 handy for a washroom or coat check attendant.

Ordering delivery? 10 percent of the bill is the correct amount to tip your delivery person-- but stretch that to 15 to 20 percent for a difficult delivery, like if it's raining, snowing, or your elevator is down and you live on the 10th floor.

Hailing a cab? You should plan to tip your taxi driver 15 percent, and throw in an extra dollar or two if they help you with bags.

Your hairdresser or barber should be tipped 20 percent of your total bill and $2 to the shampoo person. The same goes for spa services, unless they are performed by the spa owner. Then, you don’t need to tip.

For handymen, gas attendants, and staff at food retailers, there is no tip required. It is entirely optional.

People work hard and some depend on your tips to make a living. Do the right thing. If you can’t afford to tip the proper amount, then stay home!
