People with acne have more youthful skin

Despite the self-esteem issues acne can cause in the short-term, it turns out that those suffering from it are actually equipped with a secret weapon against aging.

A recent study from King’s College London determined that people with acne stay looking more youthful than those with blemish-free skin.

Although this has been widely accepted by dermatologists for years, we now have the scientific reason why. The gene pathway called p53 regulates the death of cells and can be triggered when telomeres, the structure at the protective end of chromosomes, break down. Think of them as the plastic or metal tips of your shoelaces that prevent fraying.

The study found that telomeres were significantly larger in people with acne, and thus give their skin increased longevity as the chromosomes deteriorate over time.

So while you may feel like cancelling your date now, in the end your wrinkle-free skin will have you feeling confident for years to come.
