The highly anticipated Steven Spielberg film "Ready Player One" had its world premiere during the SXSW Film Festival.

The long awaited adaption of Ernest Cline's novel of the same name is set in the year 2045 where people escape the real world by using virtual reality technology called the OASIS. The main character Wade Watts is one of several people looking for clues the creator of the OASIS left behind, that when found, will give the person full ownership of the OASIS.

The film stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Medelsohn, Lena Waithe, Win Morisaki, Philip Zhao and they were all on the red carpet at the Paramount Theatre.

Author Cline also attended the premiere, arriving in a DeLorean which is a big part in the film.

Director Steven Spielberg made a surprise appearance to introduce the film before it was screened.

Fans at SXSW who couldn't see the film were able to still get a chance to experience the world of "Ready Player One" thanks to the Ready Player One Experience with VIVE VR.

The Ready Player One Experience brought the OASIS to life using VR and displays throughout the transformed Brazos Hall. People were also able to create their own avatars and enjoy live artist performances.
