Jennifer Vitera with Whole Foods shares a recipe for some bite sized treats that a perfect for the holiday weekend and for a snack for the kiddos. They're also dairy and gluten free and low in sodium and fat and vegan friendly.
The recipe is as follows:
-1/2 cup slivered almonds, toasted and divided
-1 cup dried figs, stems removed
-1/2 cup pitted dates
-1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
-1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-1 teaspoon grated orange zest
-Place almonds in a food processor and finely grind; set aside.
-Add figs, dates, vanilla, cinnamon and orange zest. Pulse until dried fruit breaks down and mixture is sticky.
-Add two tablespoons of the ground almonds and pulse until incorporated.
-Transfer mixture to a bowl.
