It's the giving season and the Cedar Creek High School Student Council hopes you will keep them in mind. They have taken on the task of hosting thousands of teens for the 2017 student council state convention.
"It's something I've been really passionate about," said Student Council President Rebecca Brady.
"It's a big under taking. We are equal parts thrilled and terrified. It's a huge responsibility on one school which is why the district partnership is so helpful," said Vice President Kendall Haase.
Cedar Creek jumped at the opportunity to sign up to serve as the host school. As a relatively new school, it's a big honor and one they are sharing with other student councils.
The conference brings together 5,000 high school leaders across the state. It's an opportunity to improve their leadership skills and share ideas to bring back to their respective campuses.
It's such a big deal that some of the Bastrop High School students are skipping out on prom.
They are turning to the community for help. As the host school they are in charge of decorating the Arlington Convention Center. This year the theme is "Dare to Dream, Dare to do." They are asking for gift cards from Lowe's or Home Depot so they can buy supplies to build what they need. They are also trying to raise $30,000.
The students are certainly dreaming big and know they will get the job done.
