APD, MobilePD roll out app to community ahead of SXSW

The Austin Police Department is multiplying its force thanks to a new mobile app. The app allows users to submit crime tips, pictures and even a GPS location. It also has a chat feature which allows officers to message tipsters all while remaining anonymous.

The department teamed up with Austin startup MobilePD to make the application a reality. Users can and will receive alert notifications during emergency situations or be made aware of major road closures. People will also be able to track crime data across the city.

Chief Art Acevedo hopes this will improve community policing all while fighting crime.

The app is free and available for both iPhone and Android users.
