It's Halloween weekend and Austin police are stepping up enforcement to catch drunk drivers. A No Refusal initiative runs all weekend.
Starting at 9 p.m. on 10/28, police will conduct blood search warrants on drivers believed to be intoxicated and on those who refuse to give a breath or blood sample.
The initiative will run nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on November 1.
It's APD's effort to find drunk and impaired drivers and get them off Austin roads. Each year, police arrest a high number of people during Halloween weekend. In 2015, 41 people were taken into custody.
If you plan to drink you're asked to get a designated driver or here are some other ways to get you home safely:
- Take a cab or rideshare
- Catch a bus or MetroRail
- Call a friend to come get you
- Stay where you are for the night
