House made of 3D printed materials

A house made of 3D printed materials was unveiled in Austin. The 400 square foot home is made from layers of printed concrete.

It's a project by Austin based construction technologies company ICON and it's the first permitted 3D printed home created for the developing world.

The home was printed in under 48 hours for about $10,000.

The goal is to print a 600 to 800 square foot home in less than 24 hours for under $4,000.

The giant printer is portable and is designed to function with zero waste production methods. It's designed to be able to work under unpredictable constraints and to tackle housing shortages in communities around the world.

ICON has teamed up with the non profit New Story and have plans to eventually build a village of homes in El Salvador.
