Round Rock Express coach helps players on and off the field

Before a game at the Dell Diamond you'll find players rotating in and out of batting practice with B.P. B.P. stands for Brian Pearson and he's one of the auxiliary coaches for the team.

Pearson throws batting practice and coaches first base.

The love of the game keeps Pearson coming to the ball park where he's proudly worn the uniform for a decade but during the day he's in a suit and tie as a financial advisor with American Benefits Exchange.

"They hear what I do for a living and start opening up with questions like all of us for buying homes and planning for the future," said Pearson.

Catcher Brett Nicholas appreciates Coach BP on and off the field as he bought a house and started a family.

"There are only so many hours you can talk about baseball and having a guy like him around that has life outside of baseball is great. We all think we can go to 100 but he's a great guy to have around to talk about things we can do right now to set ourselves up so we're not just swimming around trying to figure something out," said Nicholas.

For each game there is a plan including a line up and how to pitch to certain hitters. Pearson reminds players and anyone who will listen they too need a personal game plan.

"Be prudent with your earnings you are not going to make money forever," he said. "Planning for retirement is key. Even the 22 year olds on the team need to be saving a portion of their paychecks."

Pearson says he'll keep coaching as long as he can all while answering questions.

"That's like throwing a pitch right down the middle," he said.
