1 nativity scene comes down, hundreds more pop up in Wadena, Minn.

- A nativity scene outside of a public building in Wadena, Minn. did not sit well with some, so the city moved it. But some residents took the matter into their own hands and started putting out their own nativity scenes as a form of protest.

The nativity scene was located in Burlington Northern Park in the center of town. After it was put up, someone complained to the Freedom from Religion Foundation, a group based out of Wisconsin. The group threatened to sue the City of Wadena on the grounds of separation of church and state.

The city council reluctantly agreed to remove the display. They sold it to the Wadena Ministerial Association for $25 dollars.

Dani Sworski created the Facebook page called "Wadena Nativity Display," asking people to put nativity displays on full display in their front yards of in their homes.

She says the effort is a peaceful response to political correctness run amok. The idea is getting so much traction they have considered trying to set a Guinness World Record.

“I just get another smile on my face every time I go by another nativity scene i haven't seen before,” Sworski said.

The nativity set from the park that originally sparked the controversy found a new home in front of a private hospital in town, where it is getting more attention than ever.
