Bonduelle USA recalls frozen corn over possible listeria contamination

(FOX NEWS) - Vegetable product manufacturer Bonduelle USA Inc. announced Monday that it is recalling over 9,000 cases of frozen corn that may lead to listeria infection.

The Brockport, New York, company hasn’t received any illness reports, but it is voluntarily recalling the products after some of them tested positive for the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, which leads to listeria, in Tennessee.

Listeria can be a serious infection that has the potential to cause fatality in individuals with weakened immune systems, as well as the young and the elderly. In pregnant women, it can cause stillbirths.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the frozen cut corn was sent to stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana.

The affected frozen cut corn was distributed in poly bags under the following labels and codes:

-WYLWOOD Super Sweet Whole Kernel Corn, NET WT. 16 OZ (1 LB), UPC 051933002401, Codes: Best By June 2017 K51564 and K51574;
-MARKET BASKET Cut Corn, NET WT. 16 OZ. (1 LB.), UPC 049705693414, Code: Best By June 2017 K51574;
-Bountiful Harvest WHOLE KERNEL CUT CORN, NET WT. 40 OZ. (2.5 LBS.), UPC 822486120597, Code: Best By June 2017 K51574;
-WEST CREEK FROZEN VEGETABLES Cut Corn, NET WT. 2.5 LBS., UPC 00806795285239 Code: Best By June 2017 K51574.

Bonduelle USA has stopped distributing the packages, and the FDA is investigating the cause of contamination.

Symptoms of listeria include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The FDA urged anyone who bought the product to throw it away. Those who have questions or are seeking a refund can contact the company at 1-877-990-2662, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.
