The Beacon at Orlando's Lake Nona shines with tribute to shooting victims

- Orlando locals know The Beacon at Lake Nona Town Center is a sight to see any given evening, but the iconic art installation is even more spectacular as it displays a one-minute tribute to the victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre.

The moving display projects light and video onto the six-story structure, which sits next to a 264-foot Code Wall. The presentation is called Orlando United - a one-minute feature that now runs nightly through the end of June.

Video of floating paper lanterns projected onto The Beacon serves as a backdrop for the hashtags used to share news, prayers and remembrances on social media.

At the beginning of the video, the words "IN OUR DARKEST HOUR" appear across the top of The Beacon.

Then, #ORLANDO followed by appearing and disappearing LOVE, STRONG, PROUD and UNITED light the middle of The Beacon. Orlando's skyline fades into the background view.

The video ends with, "WE SHINE THE BRIGHTEST" fading onto the water of the lake underneath.

The Beacon and Code Wall became a defining feature at Lake Nona Town Center in January. The installation is described as two pieces of public art which "represent the intersection of art and science" in the "hallmark of our community," by LakeNona.com.

The idea behind the installation was to display multimedia experiences of music, light, video and interactivity. It was the brain-child of Orlando-based artist JEFFRË.
