The Austin Parks and Recreation Department's George Washington Carver Museum is postponing their Juneteenth celebration, which was scheduled for June 13th, to Saturday, June 27th, due to the flooding that occurred throughout Central Texas over the Memorial Day weekend.

The free event will start with a momentous ceremony that is expected to include local and state representatives who will unveil the newest addition to the Museum, the Juneteenth Memorial Monument. Construction on the Juneteenth Memorial Monument came to a standstill because of weather-related issues and saturated grounds. The Juneteenth monument showcases five statues that serve as a symbol of the journey of African Americans in Texas, providing an encompassing representation of the contributions they have made to the state of Texas.

There will also be a fun-filled festival of events, booths, music, dancing and food for everyone to enjoy.

Again the celebration is now scheduled for Saturday, June 27 beginning at 11 a.m. at the George Washington Carver Museum at 1165 Angelina Street.
