Austin's new city government to be sworn in

Austin's new city government will be sworn into office tonight but there could be a last minute change.

10 new council members will join Mayor-elect Steve Adler at the ceremony. It's a historic day as it's the first time the city will officially be represented by district council members.

Last year, the old council divided the city into ten districts, plus the mayor. That way people would be represented by one person who actually lives in the district and knows what's happening in the area.

Ten members, including Adler, will take the oath at 6:00 but there could be a last minute change.

City Council candidate Laura Pressley, who ran in District Four, lost to Greg Casar by about 1,300 votes. This morning at 11:00 a.m. she's getting a recount. Pressley's office has dropped off a check to pay for the recount. Casar plans to attend the swearing in.
