Cops: Ex-Fox producer kills himself outside NYC headquarters

Police say a former KTBC FOX 7 producer shot himself to death outside company headquarters in midtown Manhattan.

Forty-one-year-old Philip Perea died after the shooting at about 9 a.m. Monday outside News Corp.

Authorities say Perea had been handing out fliers about Fox News saying the company destroyed his career shortly before he shot himself outside the building that houses Fox News, the New York Post and The Wall Street Journal.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, and no one else was injured. Authorities say Perea left a note.

Perea posted a series of online videos about his firing and had posted several messages on Twitter.

Around 11:30am Jack Abernethy, FOX Televisions Stations CEO sent the following email to all FTS employees...

To All Employees—

This morning, a former employee at FOX 7-KTBC (Austin) committed suicide outside FOX Television Stations' (FTS) headquarters in New York City. He was employed at our Austin television station for ten months and has not been with the station or FTS since June 2014. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy.
