Two-alarm fire in Downtown Austin

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a massive two-alarm fire in Downtown Austin overnight. It started around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night in the 500 block of Willow Street near Cesar Chavez and Red River.

The Austin Fire Department tweeted out pictures of the fire while crews were in full defensive mode on a one-story commercial building.

They say the smoke was so thick, it took them a bit to figure out which building was on fire.

Once they determined that, crews couldn't go inside to fight the blaze because the roof caved in.

Firefighters are keeping a close eye on the building, watching for hot spots. They don't believe anyone was inside but they will go inside to make sure.

AFD says the structure is a total loss. The building is valued at about $35,000.

The cause is still under investigation.
