Austin police arrested the son of Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton Saturday afternoon.
32-year-old Anthony Hamilton was arrested for driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
The arrest affidavit for Anthony states police found him asleep at the wheel about 4:20 PM Saturday.
Anthony was stopped near the intersection of 6th Street and North Lamar. By the time police got to the scene traffic was backed up past Lady Bird Lake.
Responding officers reported finding a black Cadillac Escalade stopped in the road. Police said Anthony was asleep in the drivers seat with his foot on the brake.
According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office Anthony is the son of Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton.
An arrest affidavit states police smelled marijuana inside Anthony's vehicle. Officers said Anthony admitted to having marijuana in his possession. Besides marijuana, police also found a pipe, hash oil and about ten pills of Xanax in a backpack inside the vehicle.
The affidavit states a bottle of cough syrup containing Codeine was found in the center console. Anthony told police he did not have a prescription for either medication, but said the cough syrup could belong to one of his children.
Police say Anthony failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Anthony's bond was set at $11,000.
According to court documents, Anthony has been previously arrested for possession of marijuana in 2000 and 2001. One of those charges was dismissed.
