Cruz in, Perry out for first GOP debate

Fox News has named the Republican candidates who will take part in the first debate of the 2016 White House campaign and it's mixed news for the Lone Star State. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz will be participating but former Texas Gov. Rick Perry will not be.

The other nine, besides Cruz, who will be in the lineup for the prime-time debate on Thursday, August 6 at 9 p.m ET are: Donald Trump, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

The roster of 10 candidates was determined based on an average of the five most recent national polls.

For the seven missing out, they will be in invited to a separate debate at 5 p.m. ET.

Besides Perry, the other six that are invited to the earlier debate are: former CEO of Hewlett-Packard Carly Fiorina, former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, South Carolina U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former New York Gov. George Pataki and former Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum.
