Stranded sea otter pup begins to recover, will go to new home

- The Monterey Bay Aquarium has found a home for a young sea pup that was stranded without its mother.  The aquarium isn't saying exactly where the pup will be going but adds that it is an "accredited facility in the U.S."

The pup was rescued on Wednesday, January 6th after a person called in to say they found a stranded pup on Carmel Beach between 9th and 10th Avenues.  The aquarium's Sea Otter Program responded and searched for the pup's mother but couldn't find one, so they took it in.

Since then, the aquarium has been caring for the pup, named "#719".  So far, she has gained weight; she came in weighing just over 6 pounds and now she weighs just over 7 pounds.   She's been introduced to solid food in the form of surf clam meat.  She has shed about 25% of her pup coat.
