Austin tops list of best large cities to live in

Many complain about all the new people moving to Austin and a website’s findings may not help much. WalletHub has found that Austin is the best large city to live in.

WalletHub looked at all cities in the U.S. with a population of more than 300,000 (a number totaling 62) across four categories: livability, education, health and local economy and taxes.

It then looked at 31 metrics across those four categories including things like best and worst cities for families, most and least educated cities, life expectancy and job market.

In a few metrics Austin was ranked in the top 5. Austin was tied for first in WalletHub’s Best School System Quality Score with San Diego, Raleigh, Honolulu and Lexington.

Austin ranked third in the Highest Household Income Adjusted by Cost of Living metric behind Virginia Beach and Raleigh and just ahead of Colorado Springs and Charlotte, NC.

Austin ranked seventh in livability, second in education, 21 in health and second in local economy and taxes. Despite the relatively low health ranking, Austin came out overall on top.

The top 10 is as follows:

  1. Austin
  2. Raleigh, NC
  3. Colorado Springs, CO
  4. San Jose, CA
  5. Seattle, WA
  6. San Diego, CA
