CapMetro prepares for Metro Rapid launch

CapMetro is preparing to launch its new Metro Rapid route.

Tuesday drivers will take the new 60-foot Metro Rapid busses on the streets for a test run to ensure everything is working for the official launch next month.

The new busses are equipped with onboard Wi-Fi and computers that will allow riders to scan their cell phone as a bus pass.

CapMetro says the new line will make the experience for passengers more convenient.

"This test is a really big deal for Capital Metro because it allows us to test out the route, the new vehicles all of the technology onboard the busses and make sure that it's all in tip top shape and ready to operate,"

Capital Metro spokesperson Dottie Watkins said.

The new 801 route begins January 26 and replaces the 101 route.
