Driver of car that hit and killed woman identified

*Update* Police have identified the driver of the car who struck and killed a woman as 24-year-old Trevor Taylor. He has been arrested for DWI but police say they are still investigating if DWI caused the crash.

This is an update to a previous story. The original version is as follows:

Austin police are investigating after a woman died after she was hit by a car in South Austin. It happened around 2:30 a.m. on East Riverside Drive near Newning Avenue.

Police will not release the identity of the woman until her family is notified but she's believed to be in her 20s.

What led up to the incident is still being investigated but police do believe the driver of the car that killed the woman may have been intoxicated.

The driver of the car was not hurt but his passenger was. That person was taken to UMC Brackenridge and is expected to be okay.
