A 9-year-old girl was able to rescue her three siblings when a fire broke out at their Hall County home after they had been left alone.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said on Friday night, deputies were called to the 2300 block of Athens Highway in response to a mobile house fire with possible occupants still inside. Responding deputies discovered four children, who had been left alone at the time of the fire.

The oldest child told deputies she woke up to heavy smoke filling the home. She ran to her siblings' bedroom and grabbed her 1-year-old brother and 3-year-old sister, who had been sleeping. She took them to a neighbor's home and called 911. The brave 9-year-old went back inside the burning home and rescued her 5-year-old brother.

Investigators said as they were attempting to locate the children's parents, Gregorio Garcia-Gomez, 38, arrived at the home. He's the boyfriend of the children's mother and had left them sleeping inside the home to go pick up their mom from work.

Garcia-Gomez was charged with cruelty to children and taken to the Hall County jail where his bond was set at $9,600.

Deputies said the kids were taken to a nearby hospital and have since been released. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
