Governor Abbott talks trade with Ireland's Prime Minister

Texas and Ireland are 4,000 miles apart, but they couldn't be more close, in history.

"There were Irish who fought at the battle of The Alamo, tracing back to the very beginning of Texas history," said Governor Abbott.

Sunday, Governor Abbott met with Ireland's Prime Minister Enda Kenny to talk about their combined efforts and partnership. The two also talked about preparations for the grand opening of a consulate office here in The Capital City.

"We view Austin as being a cauldron of innovation and enthusiasm and excitement for the future," said Prime Minister Enda Kenny.

Last year, Texas exported more than $ 400 million of goods and services to Ireland. Texas imported more than $1 billion of necessities and services, from Ireland.

"We were discussing the Trans-Atlantic Trade Partnership, the TTIP as it's called, with potential for several million jobs," said Kenny.

In their gift exchange, Governor Abbott gave Kenny a cowboy style belt buckle with an engraved lone star. Prime Minister Kenny gave Governor Abbot a crystal  bowl, signifying the unity of the two countries.

"We can unite with the common bond that we have shared for now, centuries," said Abbott.
