Houston mom recalls the moments she escaped the Las Vegas shooting

- Houston mom, Marlena Hedine remembers the moments when the Las Vegas gunman began to open fire on concert-goers. "Thank God, I jumped over and hid under the stage. One of our friends was actually shot in the chest.  And the man right next to her was shot in the head, shot dead right next to her."

Mother of two beautiful daughters, Hedine had just survived Hurricane Harvey and was looking forward to seeing Country music star, Jason Aldean in Las Vegas Sunday night.  Unknown to concert-goers, a man was perched upon the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across the street. He began firing bullets into a crowd of 22,000 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival concert. The mass shooting at this concert late Sunday night is the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, leaving 58 dead and 515 injured.

Hedine said the first thing she thought was, "I don't want my little girls to lose their mom. It just didn't feel real to me"  She added that at first it took a moment for people to realize that a gunman had opened fire, "It took a minute for everyone to know what was going on. Then people started screaming. There's no security anymore and you just need to run if you can."

The one thing she said was that people helped each other in the most desperate moments, "People were letting strangers hide out, in hotel room. So many prayers for the people who are still trying to figure out where their loved ones are."  She said about her daughters, "I'm just so glad they still have a mom."
