I-35 rock throwing incidents occurring again

Austin police are once again seeing rock-throwing incidents along the upper and lower deck stretch of I-35.

The most recent incident happened early Sunday morning.

Lane Peleschak of Pflugerville says she was driving north on the lower deck of I-35 near Dean Keeton Sunday at 2:30 a.m. when a rock struck her windshield, bounced off and hit her hood.

The rock left a hole in her windshield.

Officers say the incident brings the total number of potential cases to 30 since June of 2014.

Police say all have happened on the I-35 upper and lower deck stretch, mainly between 2 and 4 a.m. Police say since February there has been one victim per month.

The department is increasing its manpower in the area.

The second known victim, Kenneth Johnson, was left paralyzed on the right side of his body and had to get a prosthetic skull cap. On June 14th of last year a rock went through his windshield and struck him in the face. It caused him to crash on the lower deck of I-35 near the 32nd Street overpass.
