Iconic Austin bar shutting its doors

An iconic Austin bar is shutting its doors, but they'll be opening up a new location.

This marks the end of a 50 year tradition for the Horseshoe Lounge.
Jim Overcash was among the very first customers.
For him, it's an emotional time.
"We're all a family. Any way you want to look at it, we are a family. It will be missed. It will be missed here in this area because it's not just the Horseshoe Lounge, it's a place where you come have beer, relax, unwind and then go home," says Jim Overcash, customer.
Many feel the exact same way.
Nearly two thousand people came out Friday through Sunday to say their farewells and show respect to the Brown family.
They first opened the lounge in February of 1965.
"I get sad at times. My family opened this bar so there's a lot of our blood, sweat and tears in it. After 50 years it's my family home and there's a sadness involved in that but there's an excitement in opening another door," says Tennia Brown, owner of Horseshoe Lounge.
Although many memories will be left behind, new ones will be made when they reopen this Summer at 153 East Riverside Drive.
This location will be larger, have a stage for live music, more than 100 parking spots and the current staff will come too.
"It's going to be fantastic. The building really looks like our "shoe" building. The sign is going with us. So in a matter of weeks or so, that sign is going to be sitting in front of that building while we remodel it and get it ready to go," says Dixie Lagrange.
The jukebox and shuffleboard table will also be taken to the new location.
The Brown family hopes to make it feel like home, so customers can walk away with the same experience.
"Once you walk in there, you make friends and you're at home. You can walk in there not knowing a soul, and you will walk out with three or four new friends. Maybe your next wife. I don't know, it has happened," says Brown.

If you want to stop by the Horseshoe Lounge one last time, you have until Monday at 2:00 a.m.
