100 Happy Homes event at Austin Humane Society

Welcoming a new furry friend to your family is as easy as heading to the Austin Humane Society this weekend. The non-profit is hosting its 100 Happy Homes event on October 15.

The goal of the event? To find forever homes for at least 100 animals. If you want to provide a home for one of the animals there's another added bonus: taking an animal home is completely free.

It's the first year for the event which is presented by Heritage Ranch by H-E-B.

There will be adult cats, dogs as well as 45-50 puppies up for adoption. Staff is even bringing in some of their foster animals for the event to give people even more options.

But organizers remind people that there are a few things you should consider before adopting including the time and money aspect of having a pet.

All of the adoptable animals are spayed and neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped.

The 100 Happy Homes Challenge kicks off at noon and runs through 7 p.m.  During the first four hours, local vendors will be on hand for a family friendly festival featuring activities for the kids and snacks.
