$10,000 reward for capture of I-35 rock throwers

The Austin Police Department is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest and prosecution of the person behind the rock throwings on I-35.

The Greater Austin Crime Commission is funding the reward. According to Austin Police, there have been 52 incidents on the lower deck of I-35 along the stretch near the UT Campus.

"If the person or persons responsible for this hears my voice," Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said, "know this, we aren't going to rest. We are going to catch you, I guarantee that we will catch you."

In the recent months, as FOX 7 has reported, those incidents have moved beyond the "target zone." Addressing the media on Tuesday, Austin Police Chief believes is it because their department confirmed the use of cameras in the "target zone" as part of their investigation. Because of that he says, there will not be releasing anymore information until the person is caught.

"We are not going to talk about these attacks anymore after today during this investigation, " he said, adding, "We are not going to talk about our methods, we aren't going to talk about our progress other than to assure the community that the Austin Police Department is very aggressively pursuing all leads."

And they are continuing to ask victims and witnesses to immediately pull over and call 911. He says officers will search the area where the rock was reportedly thrown. Then speak to the person who made the call.

APD is asking for anyone with information to call, (512) 974-5270
