LCRA lets water flow from 4 dams Friday

With all the rain we've been getting, the LCRA opened a floodgate at Lake Buchanan this week and let the water flow down through the system.

On Friday, Starcke Dam at Lake Marble Falls was one of 4 LCRA dams letting water flow through the floodgates.  Most just partial openings, but openings nonetheless.

And the LCRA says it's the first time 4 dams have been opened at the same time since 2007.

It's a sign the drought is no more.

"Lakes are better now than it was in 2008.  They're fuller and cleaner too I think,"
said Marble Falls resident George Floyd.

76-year-old Floyd has lived in Marble Falls for 75 years of his life.

He comes to a little spot upstream to fish.

"I come down here to get away from the house and get away from mowing.  I catch quite a few fish here," he said.

He hadn't caught many Friday but he says the rain has helped.

"The fish are coming back.  It was nowhere near as good as it is right now," he said.

Mr. Floyd has seen the floodgates in action before.

"I think it's a lot of rolling water," he said.  "I was on this side of it down there one time fishing and they opened the gates and it come out and it goes plum up over the rock on the outside.  It's neat," Floyd said.

The LCRA has a website set up with up to date information on floodgate operations.

Floodstatus.lcra.org

Rule of thumb from the LCRA though is to just stay away from dams all the time.

The LCRA says both hydroelectric generation and floodgate operation will continue at Tom Miller, Starcke, Wirtz and Buchanan.

Mansfield Dam on the other hand will continue hydroelectric generation and will open a floodgate on Monday morning at 8am

Casey was in Marble Falls earlier today and he was streaming live on Facebook.  Have a look.
