Study names Austin/Round Rock healthiest in Texas

24/7 Wall Street set out to identify the healthiest city and metro areas in each state and Austin/Round Rock has come out on top in the Lone Star State.

The website looked at health statistics in U.S. metropolitan areas and took into account unemployment, obesity and physical activity.

The site found that Austin/Round Rock’s obesity rate is about five percent lower than the national average and that the majority of people have health insurance, although the percentage of those without health insurance is higher than other top cities in other states.

Other findings:

-17.8% of residents reported no leisure time for physical activity. That’s about 10% lower than the national average of people who reported similar levels of inactivity.

-12.9% of Austin adults reported fair or poor health

-8.1% reported being food insecure
