Bastrop County Sheriff's Office investigating woman's death

UPDATE: The Bastrop County Sheriff's office confirmed to Fox 7 that Jessica Marie Jefferson Brown died from a single gun shot wound. During Thursday's press conference, they also said Brown was working her 2nd job, delivering newspapers to homes along a rural road in Bastrop County when she was murdered.

She was 20 miles from her Cedar Creek home in the early hours of July 9 when she crashed into a tree.

Investigators would not confirm where she was shot or what kind of gun was used or if the murder was random or that she had been targeted. They also wouldn't say if Brown slammed into the tree because she had been shot or if the crash was staged.

They say they have had plenty of leads, but no suspect has been identified, and they are considering everyone a person of interest, including members of Brown's family.

A woman is found dead inside of a crashed vehicle in Bastrop County but deputies say the fatal injuries were from something else.

The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office says it got a call just after 4 a.m. about a vehicle that ran into a tree at the intersection of North Main Street and Old Highway 40.

When deputies arrived they found a female dead inside the vehicle with injuries they say aren't consistent with a traffic crash.

In the area where the vehicle was found the mailboxes are down, a stop sign appears to have been ripped off its post and trees are damaged.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Jessica Marie Jefferson Brown from Cedar Creek.

Officials say the Travis County Medical Examiner will be doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

While deputies wait on an official cause of death they are doing what they can to identify the caller so they can get a statement from him. A spokesperson says the person will be interviewed.
