20-month-old girl burned in fire comes home from the hospital

CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - A heartwarming update to a heart-wrenching story of a local toddler badly burned, now defying the odds, with a long road to recovery still to travel. 

20-month-old Emily Hinton is finally home. You may remember baby Emily from six months ago, when a gas can exploded near a fire pit in her family's back yard, severely burning her. 

Some firefighters did not believe she would live, but her family says they never gave up praying. 

"I had some doubts," Charlotte Fire Fighter Jason Dickson said. "...Emily is still the same little girl, she has a new appearance."

Now that she's home, her older brother says he knows she may never look the same, but he's going to help her get back on track. 

"Just teach her a lot of things. Like how to walk and talk again."

Emily's grandmother said she has had seven surgeries and plenty more are to come.

Local Charlotte firefighters escorted Emily and her family from a Winston-Salem hospital Thursday afternoon. 

The Firefighters Burned Children Fund says it will be helping out this family for years to come.
