2016 Texas Film Awards

Some very famous faces are in town today for the annual Texas Film Awards. Comedian Carol Burnett, actress Chandra Wilson and actor Jesse Plemons are among those who will be honored tonight.

The four honorees set to be inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame Thursday night include an Oscar winner, Screen Actors Guild lifetime achievement award winner, a director and actor. All met prior to the event to chat about their successful careers.

Co-president and co-founder of Sony Picture Classics, Michael Barker, talked about the impact San Antonio-born comedian Carol Burnett had on his younger years.

"I wish my mother was here to see me sitting next to Carol Burnett because she would say I've finally arrived,” Barker said. “But the thing is, on Sunday night's that's what brought the family together. As a family we would watch the Carol Burnett show."

Burnett says although the variety show hasn't been on the air since 1991, it is still attracting new fans thanks to sites like YouTube. She was asked about how she transitioned into each character.

"I did it from the outside in. There were many times I didn't know how I was going to perform in a sketch until I got to the costume fitting and Bob Mackie put me into a fat suit or in Mrs. Wiggins and Mr. Tudball, the dumb secretary the IQ fairy never visited," she said.

Chandra Wilson of Houston will soon enter her 13th season of Grey's Anatomy as her role of Dr. Miranda Bailey. She has also directed episodes.

And last but certainly not least, Jesse Plemons, who Austinites may associate with his role on Friday Night Lights. He will get the additional honor of the rising star award for his booming career that includes roles in films such as Bridge of Spies and Black Mass. He talked a bit about his role on the FX show Fargo.

"I think the writing was incredible. I'm not going to lie I was nervous to meet Kirsten Dunst. She has this quality where she puts everyone at ease right away. We knew we were going to be getting into some serious trouble together,” Plemons said.

The famous faces will join more than 70 other Texans to be recognized in what is called the biggest night of the year for film in Austin. It is the 16th year for the awards.
