2019 FOX 7 Football Field Trip: Cedar Ridge

Cedar Ridge is one of the area's best programs and it's led by one of the state's top running backs.

Senior Deuce Vaughn isn't a big guy standing at 5'7" and weighing in at around 170 pounds but his game sure is.

"I try to just get people off their balance," Vaughn says. "And just expose that."

Cedar Ridge head football coach Sam Robinson says Vaughn brings "a ton to the table" and senior defensive end Tyler Swanberg says "it's just incredible to watch" what Vaughn does.

Senior quarterback Jalen Brown says, "The things he does, everybody saw last year the numbers he put up."

Vaughn ran for nearly 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns last year.

"He's an unbelievable running back. Has great vision and his feet can get him there. You see running backs that have the feet but not the vision, or vice-versa," Robinson says. "He has them both and so just the stuff he does on the field is amazing."

With Vaughn and Brown, who had equally impressive numbers, returning it's expected the team's offense will be explosive again.

Defense is just returning five starters but the team feels like they'll be dominant on that side of the ball too.

"I'm expecting big things. You know we're young, but we have a lot of talent. And I trust these guys. They're very confident, and they put in the work. So, I'm ready to see what they can do. I have trust in them," says senior defensive back Ciondre Sterling.

Swanberg agrees. "We have some great linebackers coming in. Our defensive backs are amazing, and they really know what they're doing. So, we also have a lot of young guys, and they were really good on JV.  They don't have the varsity experience, but they're a great talent. Have a really bright future, and I'm really excited to be playing with them."

The Austin American-Statesman's Thomas Jones and Rick Cantu also share their thoughts on what we should expect from the team this upcoming season.
