FOX 7 Debate: Austin Mobility Bond

Austin voters are being asked to approve a 720-million dollar bond this November for transportation improvements. The bond can be looked at in three different parts.

Part one: Constructing "smart corridors" and preparing roads to eventually become "smart corridors." This includes high volume roads like North Lamar, Burnet, Riverside, Airport, South Lamar, Guadalupe and MLK.

The second part improves busy areas like Loop 360, Spicewood Springs and the 620 and 2222 intersection.

Finally, part three focuses on projects like sidewalks, trails and safer bike lanes.

City officials say the tax burden will be less than five dollars a month for the average homeowner.

The project also means we will be losing travel lanes in some spots in favor of bus lanes. That includes places like Riverside, North Burnet, North of 183 and the Drag. Some say it makes sense because buses there are clogging up traffic.
