Formula 1 takes over Austin

It's the weekend thousands of Formula One fans from all over the U.S. and the world have been waiting for. The U.S. Grand Prix kicks off at Circuit of the Americas but that's not the only place where F1 events are going on.

Fan Fan is going on downtown. It runs Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 5 p.m. on 6th Street between San Jacinto and Neches. Expect car displays and live music. The best part is that Fan Fest is completely free.

If you're not planning on going remember that beginning at 10 a.m. Trinity and Neches Streets from 5th to 7th Streets is shut down. East 6th Street from San Jacinto to Red River is shut down through Sunday night.

The main event though of course is the racing out at COTA. It's the fifth year for the event at the facility that's the first in the U.S. designed for all classes of racing.

The 3.4 mile tracks has 20 turns and draws inspiration from the best circuits around the world and it can hold up to 120,000  fans.

With all the people heading to Austin it of course it also means a lot more people at the airport. In 2015, the day after the race was the busiest departure day of the year at ABIA with some 23,000 passengers departing.

Extra personnel are also being brought in to keep everything running smoothly.
