APD identifies man killed in South Austin shooting

The Austin Police Department has identified the man that was killed during a shooting on Armadillo Road in South Austin on Sunday. 20-year-old Jacob Camacho was found with apparent gunshot wounds and pronounced dead on arrival by emergency responders. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

On Sunday, October 30, 2016 at approximately 12:55 a.m., Austin Police officers responded to the 1200 block of Armadillo Rd. in reference to shots fired. Witnesses described a white vehicle driving up and down the street at a high rate of speed. During one pass, the vehicle hit several cars parked along the street and struck a pedestrian. The vehicle then drove towards a group of bystanders and crashed into a tree.

The occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, exited and attempted to flee the scene.

The victim of the auto-pedestrian crash was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was found in the roadway with apparent gunshot wounds.

Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services arrived and pronounced him dead on arrival.

The decedent has been identified as 20-year-old Jacob Camacho. On October 31, 2016, an autopsy was conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office and the manner of death was ruled homicide.
