Matthew McConaughey weighs-in on future of Charlie Strong

The Longhorns are 5-6 this season. They need to win Friday to become bowl eligible. One celebrity alumnus believes Coach Strong can make it happen. Who better to weigh-in on the future of the Longhorns than their number one fan: Matthew McConaughey.

"For his entire three years here, he's had one goal in mind - what's best for these young men. That's been his goal and that's the message that we'll take forward. That's the message that the whole university and all our fans and all our kids are going to take forward," says Matthew McConaughey, actor.

McConaughay is a big supporter of Charlie Strong and how he's rebuilt the team since coming to Texas in 2014.

"They have to be taught how to handle themselves and how to bounce back from adversity and how to overcome obstacles," says Head Football Coach Charlie Strong, University of Texas.

Strong is 16-20 in his third year as the Texas head football coach. The university has given him credit for great recruiting and a developer of talent. Since the loss against Kansas, rumors have been swirling about when or if he will be fired. Longhorn fans are unsure what to think about how the university has handled the situation.

"Well I guess they're technically waiting until the end of the year but I thought they would wait to announce it until then. It seems like it's worse for the team, for Charlie Strong to be taking all these questions about being fired while they have a game on Friday. I wish Texas was better about treating their coaches better. But, you know, there's a lot of pressure since it's a big school," says Phil Hawkins, Longhorns fan.

Win or lose, some fans will always bleed burnt orange. They know that good things are on the horizon.

"For three years he's been about what's best for these young men and who they are for the rest of their life. That's going to be the legacy of Charlie Strong and that is a great thing. That's why we're going to go out and whoop TCU's ass Friday," says McConaughey.

The game against TCU is this Friday at 12:30 p.m. at DKR stadium.
