Mayor Adler heads to global summit in Mexico City

Mayor Adler is attending and speaking at the C40 Mayors Summit in Mexico City Wednesday, November 30. There will be over 40 mayors from some of the largest cities in the world and hundreds of sustainability leaders who are dedicated to combating climate change.

“Economic growth and environmental stewardship enhance one another in Austin. We thrive because we prioritize both,” said Mayor Adler in a statement from the city. “Cities will help lead the way on climate change, because many of the relevant decisions with transit, renewable energy generation, and conservation are being made at the local level.”

Adler will be on a panel Thursday, December 1, titled “Compact, Connected, Resilient Cities: Planning our Future City”.

Austin is a world leader in sustainability committed to taking action on climate change. Some goals are to be carbon-free municipal operations by 2020, zero waste by 2040 and net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Today, Austin is at 28% renewable energy, on pace to surpass the goal of 35% renewable energy by 2020.

The summit will host the largest gathering of local leaders and climate stakeholders since COP21.
