Local bartender helps fight against hunger

It's the season of giving, and one local bartender is doing just that. She's serving up drinks to help the fight against hunger.

When it comes to giving, no donation is too small.

"It's going to make me really, really happy to know that I'm going to be able to help somebody out there. Even if I'll never meet them, or never see them, just knowing that somebody out there today is able to eat because of the little contribution I made," says Ashita Patel, bartender, The Park.

Giving back is an important part of Ashita Patel's life. The 22-year-old bartender works at The Park at the Domain. This coming week she is pledging to donate all her tips to Action Against Hunger.

"People in other countries, they show that they're hungry and starving children... it honestly broke my heart. It absolutely broke it and I figured, maybe I could do something," says Patel.

So she picked a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending world hunger. Action Against Hunger helps malnourished children and communities gain access to clean water, food and healthcare. They say with just 45-dollars, you can save a child from deadly hunger.

"There are people out there that don't even know what they're going to eat for lunch, or what they're going to have for dinner, what they're going to feed their family. If I'm able to help, even a little bit, I'm going to do whatever I can," says Patel.

Patel will be working from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Her goal is to earn one-thousand dollars during that time. If her goal is reached, the donation will go toward saving the lives of almost two dozen children.
